Assignment 4 Contact Sheets

Contact sheets of the photos I deemed usable. IE: Not blurry as all hell.

Full of all of the ones that I took. I omitted one sheet because it had no pictures that relate to this project, and in these I have a handful that are not for the assignment because I completely forgot to take them out and only remembered them right now, sorry.

Ring Around

I hope these aren't too exaggerated...

Full Contact Sheets for Assignment 3

These are the first photos I shot specifically for the assignment. Then I didn't really like many of them so I took my dolls out and shot a lot more.

I hope I can find some that'll work in these.

Full Contact Sheets for Assignment 2

I was too lazy to get rid of the really bad ones. I should look into a tripod...
Must remember to take many more photos next time.

Old Work/New Ideas Assignment

In recent years I have spent a good chunk of my creative energy on my large collection of Asian Ball-Jointed Dolls.  Photography is a large part of it, though I have only become fairly serious about it recently.  One of my goals is to make them look as human as possible, trying out different techniques for doing so such as scale and composition.  As for inspiration, I couldn’t pin down a specific thing I get these ideas from.  Many of my dolls are physical forms of characters I created in stories, and I like to take the emotions from those stories and try to create them within the image.  This particular image was done for a series of photos dealing with heartbreak. I have not experienced this emotion personally but I am extremely empathetic through stories and this particular character has gone through it. I also just generally love taking photos of her, as I am most proud of the painting I did on her face, as well as the other customizations I have done, though I am a long ways from being finished. I am a little worried that, because of the unfinished customizations, it will be more difficult to create the human aspect of the photos I enjoy since they will be in color now.  This series was done for my Black and White Photography class, which I took last year at some point that I cannot recall at this time, possibly the spring.

I honestly have no freaking clue where I want to go with my work.  I never had any real solid direction for this particular kind of art making.  So, I decided to grab one of my favorite photos from a photographer I admire. Mehmet Turgut is a professional photographer from Turkey who almost exclusively works with human models, and does a lot of photography for bands and magazines.  He has a mysticism and ethereal feel in many of his photos, even if they are very basic subjects such as nudes or just people sitting in a chair.  I really enjoy the dichotomy between the photo and the model: photo and real life, weathered and new, spiritual and material, innocence and sin.  It is the second of a two photo series, but I preferred the composition of this one. Possibly just because I really, really like macro shots. It is easier to see the “fall from grace” these images portray in the first one, but I prefer the more implicit approach to this one.  All of Turgut’s photos have an amazing energy and humor, which I love.  I am not certain if I want to do that specifically with my photos, but I would love to be able to capture the ethereal qualities he creates.  Hopefully I will be able to experiment in this class to help me learn my own way to do such things.  I think it will, though, or at least help me find something that interests me in general.
